Local context

Dance Classes and Citrus Heights

Citrus Heights is built-out (87,583 in 2020) and dense. The USD is San Juan USD (nice music programs in higher grades); the gap parents describe is a twice-a-week class for a preschooler that is not a 40-minute slog across the American River. Citrus Heights (city) has a population of 87,583 as of April 1, 2020 (U.S. Census Bureau, 2020 Decennial Census (QuickFacts, population April 1, 2020) ) Landmarks: Sunrise Mall, Rusch Park, Greenback Lane. School reference point: San Juan High School. Public-school frame: San Juan Unified School District. Dance as a twice-weekly class for a preschooler is almost always off-campus. Driving distance from the Harding Blvd studio to Citrus Heights is about 3.1 miles; plan 8–12 minutes in normal traffic. What to expect at a class at Tutu: A weekly class in ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, or preschool dance, but grouped by age and not all tossed together in one mixed-size room. Kids learn steps that have names, then go on a recital stage twice a year with other students and perform those named steps to music. Wear: Depends on the style. Ballet requires a leotard, pink tights, and slippers, and hair up; tap requires tap shoes; jazz can be done in form-fitting clothes and jazz shoes. Trial class: Wear something that allows them to move. Hours: Monday–Thursday 4:00–8:00 p.m. and Saturday 9:00 a.m.–noon (closed Friday and Sunday). Melissa Reich opened the studio in 2015. She has taught since 2005. Staff bios — including Kima Lee (B.A. Dance, Sacramento State, 2023 Exemplary Student Award) — are on the About page. Shows: The Nutcracker (December; 2026 date TBA); Summer Showcase. Free trial class available — call 916.276.8408 or use the contact form. Tuition is quoted by phone; we do not publish rates.

What Citrus Heights parents actually ask before they drive 8–12 minutes

The child has never taken a class and you do not want a competition studio on week one. Ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical and preschool are all taught in the same Harding Blvd studio. This means that two kids can find themselves on the same evening block. Citrus Heights families often base this decision on Sunrise Mall traffic and 8–12 minutes fitting into the week.

Named staff, not a logo

Jayde, Shayla, Delaney, and Kima (Sacramento State B.A. Dance) teach alongside Melissa. Bios live on /about-tutu.

Hours that match school nights

Monday–Thursday 4–8 p.m., Saturday 9–noon. Closed Friday and Sunday on purpose.

Teachers with ECE training

Melissa Reich built the curriculum after years in classrooms and childcare. A 3-year-old class is not a watered-down teen combo.

Five styles, one address

Ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, and preschool dance all meet at 212 Harding Blvd Suite P. You are not chasing a different strip mall for each kid.

In the room

Before you buy the shoes

A little warm-up, then skills, then a combo. Preschool is more game-and-song; the older levels take on the feel of a traditional technique class. Work on recital material is introduced later in class — Nutcracker in December, Summer Showcase in the warm months. Studio classes are Monday–Thursday 4–8 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m.–noon. Jazz classes are weekday evenings only. Tuition is auto-billed on the 1st of the month. Classes are not prorated for missed days, holidays, or the two week summer/winter studio breaks. 30 days written notice is required to disenroll.
